Required

  • Current undergraduate college student entering 3rd year or graduate student
  • Major in quantitative subject area, such as actuarial science, statistics, applied mathematics, mathematics, computer science, economics, and finance
  • Familiarity with manipulating raw data with Python or R; able to take large amounts of data and synthesize information into concise pieces of analysis
  • Experience with advanced functions in MS Excel and basic usage in MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented professional with strong written or verbal communication skills. Able to influence and effectively handle multiple projects.
  • GPA 3.0 or above

Data Scientist Intern, Innovation Labs

Department: Strategy & Innovation

The Labs team conceives, builds, and tests potential new products based on emerging technologies, industry trends and early business concepts. We collaborate across the organization to de-risk the innovation process by surfacing solutions with the highest potential, and we manage transition from proof-of-concept, to pilot and launch. A true cross-functional team of data scientists, strategists, and blockchain specialists, the team is responsible for partnering across the enterprise to iterate on new ideas and enhance existing solutions through machine learning.

Pay for this position is $33 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Work with large amounts of data to uncover patterns and communicate outcomes to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Research best practices to develop statistical, machine learning techniques to build models that address business needs
  • Work with a cross-functional team to measure and improve business metrics through the use of data and machine learning/predictive modeling
  • Use a wide variety of tools to achieve results and get insights from large complex data sets (e.g. Python, AWS, Snowflake, SQL)

Data Scientist Intern, Data Science Research

Department: Personal Lines Product Management

The Data Science Research team builds and maintains various models covering almost all aspects of insurance operations. We work cross-functionally with Actuarial, Product, Marketing, Claims, Service, Innovation and Enterprise Data Hub. Our models are widely used in segmentation and underwriting. They help us better understand our customers. They can also help us to operate more efficiently, using less budget to do more. We are a group of data scientists, insurance consultants and actuaries. We bring variety of knowledge of data, modeling, and insurance products and operations. We work together with other functions, using data and model to help CSAA grow profitably.

Pay for this position is $33 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Work on various data sources. Investigate, clean and profile data to compile Analysis Ready Dataset
  • Performs complex insurance, financial, economic research, and modeling in collaboration with product management, underwriting, claims, actuarial and marketing
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of insurance operations, makes recommendations for process improvements, market development and goal attainment based on analysis performed
  • Prepares presentations of findings and recommendations and may participate as a co-presenter and/or lead portions of projects to achieve goals

What would make us excited about you?

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, or related field. Master’s Degree is preferred
  • Experience in scripting languages including Python (preferred), R, and SAS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SQL
  • Strong research, statistical, analytical, and mathematical skills with ability to structure and conduct analyses
  • Adaptability and the capability of multi-tasking and effective time management
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to make effective formal presentations

Data Analyst Intern, Advanced Data Analytics

Department: Marketing

The marketing analytics team is responsible for analysis across all marketing tactics including aggregators, affiliates, paid search, TV, display, social, online video, direct mail, and email (Acquisition and Policyholder). We work cross-functionally with Actuarial, Product, Data Science Research, Sales, Service, Innovation and Enterprise Data Hub. The team translates big data into strategic insights and recommendations that inform and drive marketing campaign strategy. We develop, produce, and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations for Marketing group and other parts of the organization. Responsible for leading and developing models built to drive revenue growth through improved targeting and performance (i.e. segmentation, risk proxy, propensity to quote, purchase, and retain)

Pay for this position is $29 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data using statistics programs, predictive analytics and other data-driven tools
  • Convert complex data findings into text, tables, graphs and data visualizations
  • Develop/enhance programming to create increased automation and efficiency
  • Proof/manipulate marketing analytics data
  • Build and design a new marketing campaign performance report using reporting software, Tableau
  • Work with internal departments to present clear reports to clients and management
  • Take a first pass at proofing reports (numbers and writing)

What would make us excited about you?

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in business/marketing, marketing analytics, statistics, economics, or data science.
  • Experience with BI tools and relational data warehousing
  • Strong programming with statistical software (SAS) and/or scripting languages (Python/R)
  • Multivariate statistical analysis, including regression analysis, decision trees, cluster analysis and direct/database marketing analysis (preferred)
