Children of Vietnam

THE ORGANIZATION
Children of Vietnam was established in 1998 to lift children out of poverty. Headquartered
in DaNang and serving Central Vietnam, Children of Vietnam provides the following
programs:
• Strengthening families that have children with disabilities
• Supporting the education of poor children from elementary school through university
• Helping single parents start and build businesses to support their families while working
from home
• Improving health conditions by bringing water filtration to poor upland villages
• Offering nutrition programs at schools and poor villages.
Children of Vietnam (COV) has designed these programs to address the causes of poverty. COV
partners with local government agencies, private companies, and other NGOs. Since 1998, COV
has provided support to more than 500,000 children. The organization currently raises and
spends USD $1 million annually.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The Board of Directors of Children of Vietnam is interested in hiring an Executive Director
who has the vision and passion to lead the organization by continuing to function as a strong
provider to children living in poverty in Vietnam but also to assist the board as it looks to
expand its programs and activities to better meet its mission. This will include developing a
more diversified funding base, examining emerging issues and opportunities in the field of
international social services, and developing programs and strategies that address the needs of
underserved populations.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Executive Director is the organization’s chief executive officer and has overall responsibility
for programs, finances, fund-raising, and administration. The Executive Director also supports
the organization’s Board of Directors, a working board that is actively involved in fund-raising
and strategy through its five board committees: Development, Governance, Finance, Marketing,
and Programs.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The organization consists of a three-person US-based staff and the nine-person staff based in Da
Nang. Staff members based in Vietnam work under the direction ofthe Country Director, who
reports to the Executive Director.
Children of Vietnam has recently completed a three-year strategic plan. This plan calls for
increased fund-raising, staff growth, and program expansion.
ROLE OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Executive Director provides leadership for all aspects of the organization’s strategy and
operations, including fund-raising, marketing, communications, financial management, staffing,
volunteer management, licensing, accreditation, and public relations.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the position of Executive Director will have demonstrated creative and
energetic leadership in the non-profit sector, and will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, the
capacity for strategic thinking, and the ability to mobilize support for the organization’s mission
and programs.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess a track record of organizational, programmatic, and
financial leadership with at least seven to ten years of increasing responsibility in the non-profit
sector.
Candidates must have demonstrated knowledge of international social services.
The Executive Director will need to spend at least two months each year in Vietnam working
with staff members and partner organizations that are located there. Familiarity with
multicultural organizations is essential.
Public speaking, presentation, and written communication skills are essential.
Experience working in Vietnam is a plus.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree at a minimum; degree in social services, international development, or
nonprofit management is a plus.

LANGUAGE
Bilingual in written and spoken Vietnamese and English is a plus
COMPENSATION
The Executive Director receives a base salary that is competitive with industry norms, and a
benefits package.
