The opportunity

If you are passionate about the environment and local government, this is an opportunity for you to start your career at Auckland Council.

You will be part of the Whatu Whanaungatanga Relationship Management team within council’s Infrastructure and Environmental Services directorate.

Working with teams that deliver environmental education, waste minimisation, stream restoration and complex developments, this position offers a unique opportunity for you to learn about the operational aspects of the directorate, while fine tuning your political acumen.

The focus of your role will be to support the Executive Officer and the Whatu Whanaungatanga team in delivering excellent outcomes for our three key areas of responsibility: quality advice and elected member engagement, Māori responsiveness, stakeholder engagement on the natural environment and water quality targeted rates.

On any given day your responsibilities will include coordinating relationships and communication to ensure elected representatives are well briefed and receive timely and high-quality information for decision-making, facilitating the delivery of regular reporting to local boards and subject matter experts, and supporting the administration of our Māori outcomes and responsiveness work including our monthly mana whenua hui.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised team player with good interpersonal skills and a strong customer service mindset. You are known for taking initiative, being resourceful and seeing things through to completion. A tertiary qualification or demonstrated experience in a relevant field and a full driver’s license are essential.

What we offer

You will be part of a highly engaged and supportive team who work flexibly and feel that their work has purpose and that their contributions are valued. This is great for your career as you will be supported to develop a practical understanding of local government management.

In addition to training and development opportunities, you’ll also have access to a range of fantastic Auckland Council benefits, including discounted Leisure Centre membership and a range of other partnership discounts! Although this is a full time role, we welcome applications from those who wish to work 32 hours per week.
