Main purpose of job

To promote the UK as the preferred inward investment destination to Indian companies looking to invest and set up business operations overseas. Encouraging high value investments including through technology tie ups, as well as research and development and joint venture partnerships.

Identifying potential Indian inward investors from the state of Kerala & Tamil Nadu, encouraging and assisting them to set up their business or expand further in the UK. As the Senior Inward Investment Adviser for these key states the role would be to drive investment, from these regions, which are in the primary sectors of Technology, Advanced Engineering, and to identify high value investment projects in these sectors. To act as the face of the British Government to Indian companies and to manage relations with key decision-makers in leading corporate houses as required.

As a key member of the South India Inward Investment Team the role would also involve working across teams to secure DIT involved FDI wins and marketing the UK as investment springboard to growth to high value individuals.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

  • Lead generation & outreach: Identify companies that could be potential investors in the UK, curate an engagement plan with them, engage with the UK on a customised business offering and ensure awareness of the UK opportunity.
  • Strategic Relationship Management: Be the primarily point of contact for key accounts (existing large investors – multi million $ companies), design and implement an engagement plan with these companies working closely with the Deputy High Commissioner.
  • Company visits/sales: Undertake company-visit programmes on prospective and active inward investment projects advocating UK’s strengths as Europe’s no. 1 inward investment destination and secure their investment into the UK.
  • Marketing and events: Delivery of outreach programmes, conferences, High level business round tables with CXOs and promotional GREAT events. The role will also involve contributing to other ad-hoc visits by VIP/senior officials. These events will help you build a healthy pipeline of contacts and projects.
  • Databases / Reporting on projects: Maintain an up to date record of interactions with companies on the DIT’s Customer Data Management System and effective reporting to HQ on the status of projects.
  • Existing investor programmes: Lead on maintaining active contact with existing investors with a view to assist in their expansion plans. Support in regular follow up with active & pursuit projects.
  • Start-ups/Scale-ups/innovation eco-system: work with the innovation ecosystem to identify prospective companies early on, consult them on global strategies with the view to influencing companies to choose the UK.
  • Miscellaneous: Attend networking events, report case studies on successful investments, maintain stock of publications & incentive items for events, report/manage spending in local budget, raise Purchase Orders and enhance relationship with industry associations and multiplier agencies for lead generation.
