The Software Engineering Manager at Athena is responsible to lead a team of software engineers and architects, provide technical guidance and manage vendors.
They inspire with open communication and technical expertise; and put the right structures in place to ensure the team will successfully execute on their roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Managing internal priorities.
- Setting goals and clarifying actions to achieve them.
- Coaching and mentoring team members.
- Handling performance management.
- Setting or progressing the technical vision and direction.
- Partnering with Product Managers to develop the product.
- Managing vendors.
- Recruiting.
- Acting as a leader in the company. Bringing positivity, energy and flexibility to help cultivate an amazing engineering culture.
- Collaborating with everyone in an open and constructive way.
- Managing incidents in your space.
- Iterating with the team on practices to continuously improve its ways and remove inefficiencies.
Requirements
- You were once or still are a skilful engineer or architect with high standards, passion for quality and a handful of years of experience under your belt.
- You have demonstrable leadership and management experience.
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- You have experience with micro-services. Bonus points if can navigate your way through Salesforce and APEX.
- You don’t shy away from rolling up the sleeves to support your team troubleshoot issues in production, help determine root causes and propose the most appropriate solution for the situation.
- You are able to collaborate with software engineers, architects, product owners and other IT staff members in order to understand the goals, derive/adapt requirements and implement solutions.
- You are comfortable working in an Agile, fast-paced DevOps environment.
- You are a problem-solver and embrace the can-do.
- You can attract and retain talent.
- You can develop people inside and outside the team.
- You speak candidly without being rude.
- You preferably have BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.

- Experience with public cloud providers is a plus. AWS is a plus plus.
- Strong design and analytical skills.
- Capacity to think holistically and see the bigger picture.
- Solid writing and communication skills.
- Experience or interest in banking.
