Scope of Work

The Fulbright Wellness Center envisions a healthy and vibrant environment at Fulbright that supports and empowers all to succeed through mental health wellness strategies. College is an incredibly exciting time for new explorations, new friends, and new interests. At the same time, these new opportunities and changes may bring out stress as students are trying to balance the demands of both personal and academic lives.

The Wellness Counselor will provide counseling and psychological services to students with mental health issues and provide information regarding mental health services and programs at Fulbright. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, with some evenings and occasional weekends for outreach activities).

The Wellness Counselor should demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment. The Wellness Counselor should also demonstrate a professional interest in university mental health counseling and psychology services and higher education student development.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Providing counseling and psychological services for students with mental health issues.
  • Providing information regarding mental health services, including (but are not limited to) individual therapy, group therapy, emergency/crisis intervention, psychological assessment, treatment planning, diagnosis, and consultation with multiple stakeholders (e.g., parents, faculty, and staff) and programs at Fulbright.
  • Work closely with the Accessibility Unit, Center for Teaching and Learning, and Faculty, to provide a supportive learning environment for students with mental health conditions.
  • Arrange for referrals to outside partners for outpatient or inpatient care as needed.
  • Support the Wellness Programs Coordinator by contributing to a range of University programs and activities including Orientation Week, health seminars, club activities, community programs etc.
  • Documenting, reporting, and maintaining confidential records and information from counseling-related services.
  • Contribute to the team by welcoming new and different work requirements; explore new opportunities to enhance Wellness Center services; help others accomplish related job results as and where needed.

What we look for

Educational level:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counselling, social work, or other relevant discipline.

Working experience:

  • Experience working in active, collaborative, and diverse environments (where diverse represents both modes of thinking and individual backgrounds).
  • Experience in a student services/student affairs role.
  • Experience with managing projects and event organization.
  • Experience in report writing would be an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory.
  • Ability to work in an English-speaking environment, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be an active listener, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to see from multiple perspectives.
